My name is Nick Zurko and I represent the earth-oriented, NY-based accessories company PONO, designed and founded by Joan Goodman. Not trying to sell anything here, but rather touch base with a like-minded, fashion-forward blog to tell you about a fantastic brand we think you’ll want to know more about.

But before I start blabbering, I’ll get to the good stuff first. We’re currently holding an online Valentine’s Hearts Sale featuring 14 of our classic heart pendants taken from our different collections over the past five years. The items can be seen and purchased at our eBay store: Prices are at 75-80% off retail, so this definitely a must-click!

Smart, modern women aiming to balance a fashionable and tasteful lifestyle with the demands of everyday life: that’s the PONO demographic. When we began, our goal was to make accessories for ALL women, regardless of age, size, or income. PONO is a high-end jewelry company, but one that aims to stay grounded on planet Earth. Thus, our items vary drastically between a $20 Masaai beaded bracelet (with 20% of the profits going to young African women in need) and, well, stuff that would be far out of my price range (if I was a woman, that is!).

As a company and personally, we favor style over trends, boldness over blandness. Taking classic designs inspired by vintage costume jewelry, but removing all things garish, PONO’s pieces are sexy and ready to go with just about any outfit, whether for a day at home or night out about. Statement jewelry is central to the PONO aesthetic and we try (and hopefully succeed!) to offer a wholly original take on the style, mixing a whole melange of influences with the demands of modern living. PONO items at once call upon the past while creating their own, new story; the individuality inherent in the materials we use rejecting any sort of atomic uniformity. Quality and ethics go hand in hand with our production model. We use many different and unusual materials, like cow horn and luscious resins, brought to life in our Italian factories, which adhere to strict environmental regulations.

In the past five years, the demand and attention given to the brand has skyrocketed. Recently, we’ve been featured in Cosmo, O Magazine, Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, amongst many others. Our pieces have been seen in such movies like “The Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses” and PONO will be appearing on shows like “Gossip Girl” and all over “The L Word” in the Fall. Furthermore, we’ve been receiving a steady line of celebrity customers that include the likes of Julianne Moore, Paris Hilton, Beyonce, and Hilary Swank.

With all of this positive attention coming our way, we’ve decided to turn our good fortune into even more positivity by initiating our “Give Love, Practice Peace” campaign. The idea is simple: we pick a charity we admire, design a line of accessories to represent their cause, and then donate a percentage of the sales to the group. So far we have developed three collections—Save The Planet, Brightness of Life, and Arctic Awareness—to benefit the following groups: The Climate Project, Give a Girl a Chance, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. All of these items are currently for sale at our eBay store:

For equally high-minded and practical accessories designed to grab attention, PONO should be every woman’s secret weapon, regardless of age and income.

Please visit our Facebook page listed for much more information and pictures of all of our items:
Our website is, which will be receiving an overhaul in the near future.

    Thank you for your time.
