Golden Globes Best and Worst Dressed January 15, 2009

We’ll start off with the bad. Marisa, Maggie, Renee – what were you thinking?

Fashion police referred to Marisa Tomei’s getup as a pirate or gypsy costume. I still think she’s adorable maybe just not in this dress.

Maggie Gyllenhaal slaughtered and dragged a blue leopard onto the red carpet.

Seriously Renee what were you thinking especially when you usually never fail to place on the top of best dressed lists of every award show you attend. I guess every celebrity is allowed their fashion flops. What’s up with the shoulder-slit sleeves and is that a NuBra she’s wearing under that sheer blouse??

Jennifer Lopez and Megan Fox arrived dressed in these gold numbers. I know they wanna show off their sexy and all but I’m just not feelin’ the Foxxy Cleopatra gold and skin-tight combined. That combo sends off a hint of tacky VMA dress.

These gowns gave me mixed feelings:

Left: Drew Barrymore’s figure looks great in this flattering silhouette designed by John Galliano, but the teased up hair and powder blue color are a bit reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe if she was in the movie, Hairspray.

Right: Kate Winslet is actually on most all best dressed lists for wearing this YSL black column gown, but I guess since my brain’s in wedding mode, I couldn’t help but think that minus the columnular bustline and the jeweled charm dangling from the belt, this gown would look like your average bridesmaid dress. Still I love Kate Winslet – one of my fave actresses. Her skills on screen are A-list. I’d just like to see her dressed  to the caliber of her acting. It’s still a great dress, but Kate deserves better.

Left: Eva Mendes is so close to stunning from head to toe. Her sophisticated, glamourous up-do is classic and her white gown and turquoise neclace are such complementary colors with her skin tone. I love the dress until that gargantuan, floppy excess of fabric waves “HELLO!” at you from her hip. What is that thing and why so big? It would’ve made a much flattering detail if it wasn’t so overwhelmingly large. You can’t deny – at least Dior did take a risk with this design and despite the hip action, Eva is still a vision.

Right: Cameron – I love her goofy sexy self, but I’m not sure what to make of this look. I like the unique cut and asymmetrical draped lines of the gown, but I’m ambivalent as to what is making Cameron a tad bit frumpy – maybe the overdone beach tan and lipstick set against the slightly wrinkled bright pink fabric ?

My 3 top faves of that evening :

Vanessa Hudgens’ Alberta Ferretti gown was my favorite of the evening. She’s pullin’ off both sexy and elegant  in an intricately beaded nude dress. Vanessa’s pairing of accessories and trendy hair-style complete a youthful look.

Eva was a show-stopper in this red-hot Reem Acra design. The scalloped edging on the bust-line was a subtle but stunning detail and the mermaid silhouette fit her like a glove. This is the way to pull off skin-tight sexy while still keeping it tasteful, classy, and elegant.

Kate Beckinsale looked so chic in this white J. Mendel gown. The flouncy, gathered bodice and mermaid style delicately flatters her every curve. This gown is gorgeous! – hmmmm, wouldn’t it make a pretty bridal gown?
